Management & Governance

GOVERNANCE

One World School is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation established under the California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law. Its method of governance is specified in its charter and was approved by the federal government when its nonprofit status was affirmed by the Internal Revenue Service.

After much consideration, One World's board has adopted a revised set of By-Laws that reflect a new model of governance appropriate to a school in operation, rather than one in development. These revised By-Laws will become operative once we are approved to open by the relevant governmental supervising authority and will be made available here.

One World currently has a talented board of trustees, but is recruiting new members as we continue to evolve. Our board is assisted by a group of patrons, which we are seeking to expand by adding members in our proposed target markets, including graduates of UWCs and similar international schools. Currently leadership is provided by the school's principal and its board of trustees, which includes a chair, a vice-chair, and other officers.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Our Board is responsible for appointing, supervising, and supporting the principal; manages the school’s overall finances and property; sets policies related to employment, staff compensation and benefits; oversees educational policy, formulates long-range and annual accountability plans, and supervises the implementation of our program, including admissions and expulsions; and is the legal entity entering into contracts. It will meet monthly and will publish its minutes on our school's website.
