About One World

Who We Are

In the end, education has to do with fashioning certain kinds of individuals—the kinds of persons I (and others) desire the young of the world to become.” Howard Gardner

It is appropriate here also to quote from the “IB learner profile”, an inspiration for our school (although we have not yet applied for IB authorization and are not a candidate school): “The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.”

While seeking to attract for our first year students who will be in 8th grade in 2013, One World Secondary School is determined to remain relatively small, with a final student population of students aged 13-19 targeted at 1080, all preparing for higher education by using world class curricula and assessments.

In the lower secondary years, One World will operate as separate boys' and girls' schools, with the added focus and gender-appropriate instruction easily derived therefrom. In different ways we expect to nurture in both our female and our male students the values of the United World Colleges: international and intercultural understanding; celebration of difference; personal responsibility and integrity; mutual responsibility and respect; compassion and service; respect for the environment; a sense of idealism; personal challenge; and action and personal example.
